Tuna n' Carrot Peera | Kukskitchen

Traditionally peera is made with small fish like natholi / anchovy. However, canned tuna is an easy fix. I came across this idea when my friend from school Remya asked me about indian style recipe to do with tuna. Combining tuna with carrots makes it a more rounded dish.

Carrot Cake with Secret Moistening Ingredient | Kukskitchen

This is the best carrot cake recipe ever. Now what makes it the best recipe ever is a secret ingredient. You will find it in the ingredients. Like all carrot cakes this uses oil instead of butter. It is the secret ingredient that gives the cake all its moisture. Thank you dear Simone for passing this recipe on to me. I used wilton's butter cream recipe and did ruffles to give a simple finish. I will share the recipe in my next post. Watch this space.

I made it for my son's birthday just gone. It was his 5th and he was super excited. He loved the cake. We had it for breakfast.

Beef in red wine | Kukskitchen

Beef is an all-time-favourite in our households. It usually gets pressure cooked with spices and then dried in oil for a crispy effect. Beef in red wine is slow cooked, making the beef extra tender and full of flavour.

Carrot halwa | Gajar-ka-halwa : using pressure cooker, hob or microwave oven | Kukskitchen

'Maa ke haath ka bana Gajar ka halwa'  features a lot in hindi movies of yester-years. As a child I always drooled on hearing this dialogue. It was only when I grew up that I started making carrot halwa and after marriage, esp after moving to UK, because of the ease of getting ingredients for this sweet in this 'foreign' land :-), carrot halwa featured a lot in my kitchen.

The pictures were taken a while ago, before I started blogging. Apologies for the solo picture.

I post this recipe here today on request by my friend C. Here's to u C and my dear dear friend N who also shares my passion to food and cooking. Cheers!

Keralan mixed vegetable spicy soup with lentils - nammude sambar | Kukskitchen

My dad's first line when mum starts cooking sambar is ' sambar inge ukkarungo' :) He is the biggest sambar fan in the planet. He appreciates me trying new versions of the classic like palakkadan, kozhikkodan etc etc. My son has taken to his appappan's palate and luvs sambar esp if it's with dosa. I can virtually eat it with anything at all - rice, dosa, idli, upma, idiyappam and chapati.

A variety of vegetables can be used in an avial, which includes drumsticks, yam, raw banana, ash gourd (kumbalanga), aubergine (vazhuthananga) and more recently carrots, potato and cucumber.

Ideally sambar needs to be cooked in an open pot which takes a lot of time. I go for the quick pressure cooker version when I have less time. I know daddy this version is not ur favourite. :(

Carrot stir fry | Keralan style & a tip for weight loss :) | Kukskitchen

Eating carrots will not make you fat. This a fact. It contains beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A, is especially important for eye health. It’s also of great benefit to the skin, and the immune and digestive systems. Carrots are also loaded with fibre and water, which cleanse the liver, boost oxidation and plump out skin to stave off wrinkles.
